Ramblings about today......

Malea is enjoying showing Elani "the ropes" around here. She is teaching her how to comb her doll's hair, how to play with her Leapster games, how to use the potty, how to use the remote, and the list goes on..... it is pretty cute.

Today we went to a large shopping area and one of our steals were these black market DVDs for $1.50 a piece. Woo hoo. Apparently the other Americans in Guangzhou know about this place because there were other families in there while we were there. I asked the clerk if they had a specific movie and she said "No, but if you come back tomorrow I think we will have it." Hmmmm...

Asleep in the van, shopping is very tiring. Get used to it girl!!

This picture has nothing to do with our China trip but had to share it. Maddie has a unique talent of being able to blow a bubble with soap out of one nostril while she is in the shower. She called me into the bathroom this afternoon to tell me that this one was the biggest one ever! :)

The view from our room.

There is a typhoon outside, kind of cool to watch from the 14th floor room that we are in. We plan to go to the zoo tomorrow if the weather improves. The girls are looking forward to seeing the panda and other animals that are there.
I asked our guide while we were driving today why Elani's head was shaved recently and many of the other children who are being adopted don't have shaved heads ( the ones who I have met in this hotel anyway). He said that she is from a poor orphanage in a small town and they don't have AC in the summer so it is very hot. They shave the children's heads to help keep them cooler. This probably explains also why her lip is not repaired yet as many other children's are, the orphanage where she was living just didn't have the access to or the funds to pay for that kind of medical care. In a way we see this as a blessing though so that we can take her too a good surgeon who will hopefully do a good job when we return.
That's all for tonight, I am tired and heading to bed! Take care...............

We know that Maddie is talented in many ways...now we can add another talent to the list! Good job Maddie!! :) Glad you are on the 14th floor for a visit only....to live in such a crowded space would be very different. The girls may be ready to get back to open spaces and mowing their yard. :) Look forward to more adventures. Love you tons!

Thanks for the frequent updates, Abby and Marc. My thoughts and heart are with you as you take this step and start an amazing journey together as a family. I'm so touched and encouraged by the love you have for Elani and your family. I keep thinking of how this journey you are on so aptly illustrates how God loves us, comes to us, adopts us, and takes us into His family. I think too of all that Elani has to look forward to with you in the US and as she grows up- just as we have so much to live for and be excited about. Thanks for being so faithful and a blessing to us so far away in Canada!
