Warning, don't read before a meal!
Well, our pigs are weighing about 120 pounds each now and they gain 1-2 pounds a day so all they basically do is eat and poop! It was time to give them wormer medicine yesterday because they get worms in their stomachs from all the rooting around in the dirt they do. So, I had the girls give them the medicine wrapped in some bread so they would eat it. Meanwhile, I had to try and take Rosemary's rectal temperature because the vet told me I had to since she has been acting weird. I put on my big yellow utility gloves because NO WAY was that pig going to poop on my hand while I did the deed! (They poop all the time by the way).
So, the idea was that Madison would distract her pig and feed her the medicine and bread while I took the temperature (Marc is out of town, as he always is when things like this happen!).
I successfully got the thermometer in her you know where ( I think that was the right orifice!) and no sooner did I do that than these worms that were about 8-10 inches long came crawling out of the same orifice. GROSSSSS does not begin to explain how disgusting that was! The girls were saying "Mom, WHAT are those?" and I not so calmly tried to explain that is why we were giving them the medicine.
After we came inside and washed our hands, Kiersten and I decided that mom is not a large animal farmer and maybe next year if she wants to do 4H she can do bunnies or something. She seems fine with that and I am MORE than fine with that!
