I spoke with a neat lady today from an organization called Love Without Boundaries (www.lovewithoutboundaries.com) This is a great organization that was originally formed by a mom who saw the great need in her child's orphanage and wanted to help the children who were left behind. They work by accepting donations from anyone and they will specifically go into an orphanage that someone wants to help. I was impressed when she told me that 90% of the donations go directly to the orphans and they only keep 10% to pay the local liasons in the countries where they are working.
From what I understand, they have worked with Elani's orphanage in the past by donating formula. How the process works is once they receive donations for the orphanage, they wire money to the staff person in that country and then they actually go out and buy what the orphanage has the greatest need for or has requested. Then the orphanage is required to take pictures of the donated items being used and send them to Love Without Boundaries. By using donations in this way they hope to cut down on any unethical use of money by the orphanage and meet the actual needs of the children that live there.
Suzanne (the lady I spoke with) is going to be calling me soon and letting me know the specific needs of Elani's orphanage. I talked to her about blankets and mattresses, etc as some concerns. She will address that but she also explained how many times in these institutions if you donate things that they don't see a need for or don't consider important the items will go unused and then our money is wasted. So, even though we would would never dream of laying our babies on hard plywood, they may because of poverty or ease of cleaning think this is perfectly acceptable. Something they have done recently is try to buy plastic covered mattresses which she is looking into also.
I told her about Elani's lip not being repaired yet and also about Elani's little friend who's lip isn't repaired either. She was quite surprised about this, considering their ages. So, she is also checking into getting a surgery group to look at going to the orphanage to help out some of the kids there that need it. I was very excited about this.
Wow, this is turning into a very long post!
Bottom line is: As soon as I hear back from her I will let everyone know the details of how to donate if you are interested and hopefully we can raise lots of money for all those precious kids still there!
Thanks for you concerns!!

Will be AMAZING to see what GOD does with all of this....we are doing our best not to even think about the conditions little Gracie who is waiting for her family might be facing. GOD KNOWS & HEARS...anxious to hear how we can help. BLESSINGS to YOU! Continuing to pray for all the many adjustments!!
Exciting! Praying God will open the right doors to make it all work.
