It has been a while since I have posted, I noticed I need to change my "Valentines background" on the blog, that is kind of sad that I haven't done that yet!
Our pastor had a GREAT sermon today on the sovereignty of God and how we can react with that in mind, in the midst of the recession and what seems to be gloomy time for our country. I don't know how you feel, but when I occasionally watch the news I just feel like sticking my head in the sand and wanting to ignore the spiritual and moral decline around us. But, God is still a God of purpose and His plans will not be thwarted despite the headlines!
One of the passages spoken on was II Cor 8:1-7. If you're interested I would encourage you to read it, I won't type the whole thing out on this blog but the jist is this:
Paul was talking about the Macedonian church who was a very poor church but they excelled in the grace of giving. I know the recession affects everyone differently, some of us may not really feel the effects of it yet but maybe one of the purposes He has in this recession is to re-establish our joy in God's grace instead of our goods. Recession in our own lives can open our eyes to the never ending recession in the lives of millions around the world.
It is very easy to get comfortable in our country where we are so blessed and I don't mean to say that God is trying to teach us some lesson that we deserve but I do know that He can and is working all things out for His glory and that is so comforting!
OK, I will step down off my soap box now, sorry for rambling......
